AI-Enabled Coil-Out Temperature (COT) Optimization

Scope of Work

The project involved the deployment of dDriven’s UNLSH platform in combination with a customized Coil-Out Temperature Advisor (COT Advisor) application. The tool was designed to support operators in quickly determining the optimal COT within a window of 3 to 4 hours, down from an average of over 15 hours. The application leveraged prescriptive analytics and AI models to guide operator decision-making and reduce setup delays significantly.

The primary challenge was developing a prescriptive solution that could deliver actionable insights in near real-time and integrate smoothly with operator workflows. By deploying the AI-based COT Advisor, the refinery achieved a reduction in COT discovery time by 80%, bringing it down to 3–4 hours. Operator setup time was cut by 50%–70%, resulting in estimated annual savings of USD 300K–500K. The success of this initiative underscores the value of AI-driven analytics in refining operations and process optimization.
