These roles are responsible for developing, reviewing, and ensuring the accuracy of piping layouts, isometric drawings, and 3D models used in the construction and operation of oil and gas facilities. The scope includes piping systems design, equipment tie-ins, support detailing, and routing coordination across disciplines.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Piping Designer:

  • Develop piping layouts in 2D and 3D based on P&IDs, equipment layouts, and design criteria.
  • Design and route process and utility piping systems with proper clearances, supports, and accessibility.
  • Generate isometric drawings, pipe support drawings, and general arrangement (GA) drawings.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams to ensure clash-free designs.
  • Ensure compliance with piping material specifications, stress analysis input, and line class data.
  • Model equipment and piping in 3D tools (e.g., E3D, PDMS, AutoPlant, SmartPlant 3D).

Piping Draftsman:

  • Prepare and update 2D drawings including piping plans, sections, and isometrics under the guidance of designers or engineers.
  • Convert 3D model outputs into readable and standardized drawings.
  • Annotate drawings with accurate bills of materials, welds, and dimensions.
  • Apply drawing standards, symbols, and industry codes (e.g., ASME, ANSI).

Piping Checker:

  • Review and verify piping drawings, isometrics, and 3D models for accuracy and compliance.
  • Check for alignment with project standards, piping codes, and client requirements.
  • Identify potential clashes, misrouting, or dimensional errors using 3D modeling tools or review platforms (e.g., Navisworks, SmartReview).
